When is a car journey not a good car journey?…..

…..when it doesn’t happen because your car won’t start!

We’ve been asking people “How do you feel when your car won’t start” and whilst we’ve had answers such as ‘frustrated’, ‘scared’ and ‘disappointed’ the most frequently used word was ‘ANGRY’.  Can you remember that moment when you almost hit meltdown, ANGRY that you will be late for that appointment or miss that concert you’ve been looking forward to?

CTEK MXS 5.0 Announced as the Auto Bild ‘Best Buy’ Battery Charger 2011

We are once again celebrating after the CTEK MXS 5.0 was awarded the prestigious title of ‘Best Buy’ by Auto Bild, the renowned and respected German automotive magazine which, including foreign editions such as Auto Express in the UK and Auto Plus in France, is published in over 36 countries.

To ensure that the tests were fair and unbiased, the tests were undertaken in collaboration with the society for Technical Supervision, the GTÜ.

The CTEK MXS 5.0 was pitted against its rivals in a series of demanding performance tests including charging a deeply discharged battery and various safety and drop tests. Also judged on its accessories, ease of use and practicality, the charger excelled in every category and scored an impressive 452 points from a potential 500. The award is testament to the unique multi-stage charging characteristics of the product that are incorporated across our entire range of smart chargers

This year we have seen an influx of new entries into this category and we are absolutely delighted to win this highly prestigious accolade.

Lead-acid batteries are becoming ever-more advanced and sensitive, being used more frequently and under more demanding conditions than ever before. As a result, battery care is a fast growing issue, particularly as life expectancy drops rapidly due to inadequate maintenance.

Don’t let this be a ‘flat’ Winter

Our research estimates that around 1 in 3 vehicles are driving around with an undercharged battery. Couple this with the fact that battery performance can reduce by 35% when temperatures hit freezing and fall by as much as 50% if temperatures go even colder and it becomes more important than ever during the winter months to regularly charge your vehicle battery.

Across the globe, battery failure has been identified as the single biggest cause of breakdowns during the winter months. At freezing temperatures an engine’s starting power requirement can increase by as much as 250 per cent when compared to that of a summer’s day. Furthermore with additional drains on the battery e.g. heated screens and seats, headlights and an increase in short journeys during the winter, it is being placed under a huge amount of strain – no wonder so many fail as soon as we experience a drop in temperature!

To protect against a flat battery when the first winter cold spell strikes, we recommend an overnight charge to bring the battery up to maximum capacity and regular charging through the winter.

Honda achieves BTCC success with CTEK

In 2011 we were a proud sponsor of the Honda British Touring Car racing team and following a thrilling last round of the British Touring Car Championships (BTCC), we are delighted to report that the Honda Racing Team has achieved all three major honours of the 2011 season. Drivers Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden finished first and second respectively in the Drivers’ Championship and as a team they collected the HiQ Teams’ Trophy. The pair also helped Honda secure the BTCC Manufacturers/Constructors title.

As part of a 2011 sponsorship deal, CTEK branding has been displayed on the Honda cars for the entire season of gripping action. The race workshop has also been employing CTEK chargers for battery charging and diagnostic support.
