We read with great interest a report from German breakdown company ADAC that revealed that a severe lack motorists undertaking basic car maintenance is still heavily affecting the number of battery related call-outs. The report revealed that in 2012 1 in 3 call-outs, even in newer vehicles were due to a faulty or discharged battery.
With modern vehicles full of complex and sensitive electrical equipment that constantly draw current from the battery, an ever increasing number of mechanical faults from new and older vehicles alike are battery related. Indeed ADAC reported that battery related faults were bucking the trend – in almost all other areas where there is a technical component there was a slight decrease in breakdowns.
It’s clear to see that the problems associated with batteries are growing rapidly in line with the increasing demands on batteries, as vehicles become ever more reliant upon them for all manner of tasks. It is a common misconception that these problems only affect older vehicles. In fact newer vehicles are also particularly at risk and that includes brand new models.
Unfortunately, many new vehicles experience battery discharge prior to delivery to the customer, resulting in a short term problem immediately thereafter and the customer feeling that there is a more significant problem with the vehicle. Similarly, if a vehicle is not used for a few days or only used on short journeys, the battery can become discharged leading to the expense of a replacement battery or callout charge. Given these problems can be simply and cost effectively resolved with regular battery maintainance, many consumers are choosing to add a battery charger to their essential garage maintenance kit.
Our unique range of smart chargers optimise the performance of lead-acid batteries by determining accurate readings of a battery’s charge and ensuring the appropriate action is taken to optimise the battery for use, thereby prolonging a battery’s life to the benefit of both the vehicle owner and the environment.

We have continued to expand our range of charger accessories by launching the CTEK Bumper, a cost effective solution that will provide maximum protection for CTEK MXS 3.6 and MXS 5.0 chargers. The easy to fit, hardwearing, silicone rubber bumper will ensure a strong defence against accidental drops, scrapes and scratches and help the charger grip on angled or slippery surfaces.
You should be all too familiar with the concept of the bumper case, a solution that is heavily used by smartphone users. Customer feedback indicated that CTEK owners wanted something to offer protection against bumps and scrapes, so we used the mobile phone bumper as the template for our design.
The CTEK Bumper is already proving a big hit with CTEK owners as it provides an inexpensive way to add extra protection.
We are delighted to announce that we have developed a dedicated disability vehicle connector plug to work with our MXT 4.0 product, a 24V 4A smart battery charger, to help mobility vehicle owners maximise the performance and ensure that maximum range is achieved from their mobility vehicle batteries.
Mobility vehicles are becoming ever-more advanced, being used more frequently and under more demanding conditions than ever before. As a result, battery care is a fast growing issue, particularly as maximum range and life expectancy drops rapidly due to inadequate charging and maintenance.
Around 80% of all battery failures are due to sulphation caused by undercharging – a direct result of lack of proper care and maintenance, and with lack of adequate maximum battery range being the biggest issue facing mobility vehicle owners, so we have launched the new generation, MXT 4.0 to deliver a safe, simple, intelligent approach to comprehensive battery maintenance that is fast, effective and easy to use.
By not being charged to 100% capacity the mobility vehicle battery will be cycled more often than necessary which will increase stratification, drastically reducing capacity. Furthermore, sulphation will occur, reducing capacity event further and shortening battery life significantly. Our research shows that the MXT 4.0 can extend the life of the battery by as much as three times as well as maximising range.
We mentioned a couple of weeks back that we had undertaken a survey to identify consumer awareness and attitudes to battery charging. As well as measuring these important points, our survey also focused on consumer awareness and experience of the CTEK range of Smart chargers.
78% of those surveyed owned a battery charger and in 51% of cases it was a CTEK charger. The figure that we are really proud of however is that 92% of those surveyed associated the words quality and reliability with the CTEK brand, which we feel is testament to the unique multi-stage charging characteristics incorporated across our entire range of smart chargers.
The new generation of CTEK Smart battery chargers take a safe, simple, intelligent approach to comprehensive battery maintenance that is fast, effective, easy to use and most importantly won’t let you down.
Our chargers offer a unique multi step-approach to battery care, that are simple to use and will ensure that any lead-acid battery is optimally conditioned and charged.
